In connection with the MCST Space Research Fund STREAM project, MST AudioVisual Ltd is seeking to recruit part-time qualified staff to work remotely on the development of services dedicated to deliver on-demand satellite-derived data, covering the Maltese Islands and its vicinity, to users that require such data for information and to sustain and improve their own operations and endeavours. The STREAM system will comprise a digital platform designed to deliver satellite data sources to users through a web-based interface and a smartphone application, and channeling data easily and customised to user needs.

 

Three categories of complementary jobs are envisaged, and applicants may qualify to take one or more of these jobs. The chosen applicant(s) are expected to work under the direction of the MST project responsible as well as interact as a team with the other project partners. The applicants need to fit closely to the job descriptions outlined in this call, but applicants that are ready to learn quickly and research their way into new aspects of work will be also considered. The STREAM project has a high level of innovation and technology application, and therefore offers to chosen applicant(s) the opportuniy to enhance their skills by working in a prolific team composed of local and foreign partners.

 

The project is an intensive endeavour with delivery by July 2024. The selected applicant(s) will be assigned an agreed number of hours per week that can vary during the project execution to fit the timeline of the project activities. On average the applicant(s) is expected to dedicate 20 – 30 hours on each job every month. Remuneration is expected to be 25 Euros per hour.

 

The applicant may also be required to work on other projects undertaken by MST AudioVisual Ltd, and/or perform any other project related task as instructed by the project coordinator and key experts.

Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by a selection board. Shortlisting will be made according to qualifications, experience and skills described by the applicant. While applications by foreigners are accepted, the selection of applicants will take into consideration the local rules for recruitment, with preference to applicants resident in Malta with a work permit.

We are currently seeking a Back-end Developer to offer his/her services as an expert who will be working remotely. You will be responsible for building internal software components to which front-end developers can communicate over REST API. Such tools will be built using Java to deliver data which is ultimately stored in a database.

 

Your tasks:

  • Design, develop, and maintain existing software components
  • Take part in architectural design discussions and product lifecycle from data reception to client delivery
  • Documentation of the system components
  • Collaborate with other team members, and liaise with front-end developers

 

Requirements

  • University degree in IT or relevant, combined with minimum 2 years of relevant working experience
  • Excellent knowledge of JAVA, REST API, and JSON
  • Good knowledge of Python and Java Spring Boot/Spring Framework technologies
  • Experience with databases (ideally PostgreSQL) and integration techniques with Java and Python
  • Proficiency in Linux, including Ubuntu and RedHat distributions
  • Knowledge of GIT source code versioning tool
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to write unit tests that are de-coupled from the system under test
  • Strong communication and writing skills in English

We are currently seeking a Data Engineer to offer his/her services as an expert who will be working remotely. You will be responsible for managing the ETL workflow, including data reception, processing and loading into a database for eventual use by end-customers.

 

Your tasks:

  • Design, develop, and maintain existing oceanographic data processing scripts.
  • Take part in architectural design discussions and product lifecycle from data reception to client delivery.
  • Plot results using graphical tools
  • Feed results into a PostgreSQL PostGIS database
  • Documentation of the system components
  • Collaborate with other team members and liaise with third parties providing scripts

 

Requirements

  • University degree in IT or relevant, combined with minimum 2 years of relevant working experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Python and Linux, including Ubuntu and RedHat distributions
  • Good knowledge of Java and MATLAB
  • Experience with databases (ideally PostgreSQL) and integration techniques with Java and Python
  • Proficiency in Linux, including Ubuntu and RedHat distributions
  • Knowledge of GIT source code versioning tool
  • Knowledge of Geoserver and/or SAFE FME Tool would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of spatial databases (ideally PostGIS) and transformation techniques
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Strong communication and writing skills in English

We are currently seeking a GIS Engineer to offer his/her services as an expert who will be working remotely. You will be responsible for managing the GeoServer workflow, including the data services APIs using WMS/WFS/WCS to the front-end developers, together with the development of an automated report generator delivering customised reports to users.

 

Your tasks:

  • Configure and maintain GeoServer enabled with several integrations
  • Design, develop, and maintain existing oceanographic data reporting scripts based on user preferences
  • Take part in architectural design discussions and product lifecycle from data reception to client delivery
  • Documentation of the system components
  • Collaborate with other team members and liaise with front-end and back-end developers

 

Requirements

  • University degree in IT or relevant, combined with minimum 2 years of relevant working experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux, including Ubuntu and RedHat distributions
  • Excellent knowledge of GeoServer, including:
    • Web-based GIS extensions (OpenLayers, Leaflet, GeoWebCache)
    • Spatial databases (PostgreSQL, PostGIS)
    • Desktop GIS software (QGIS, FME Tool)
    • GIS standards and formats such as GeoJSON, GeoTIFF, GeoPackage, OSM and OGC standards (KML, WMS, WMTS, WFS, WCS)
  • Good knowledge of Java, REST API, and JSON
  • Proficiency in Linux, including Ubuntu and RedHat distributions
  • Knowledge of GIT source code versioning tool
  • Knowledge of SAFE FME Tool would be considered an asset
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlines.
